The number of the elements in each valve is determined by its nominal diameter. Every thermostatic element has its own slider. The medium in question (e.g. cooling water or lubrication oil) flows around the thermostatic elements as they take its temperature. The characteristics of every controller are determined by the beginning of opening (i.e. the opening temperature) and the temperature at full opening of the expansion element.
